I'm not sure which funny modder had the bright idea to prevent people from mining iron and not letting any clues how to resolve it, but I want to get rid of this mod quick, can't progress anymore in my test world, can't play a modpack that would stop the basic minecraft mechanics from working, if its supposed to be like that. I need a quick tip, youtube doesn't give any clues on this one, is it Tinker's Construct related, Metallurgy 4 related or what, I have experience with both of theses mods in the past and never was stuck with not being able to mine iron.

Ditto. It says you need iron to mine iron. Which is a bit redundant. Are there any other resources that can take the place of iron?

Found out why, the mod that is causing this is actually pretty cool once you learn how it works, its Iguana Tweaks for Tinkers Construct, the tools you use actually gain experience and mining with them increase their ability, you need to mine for awhile with the same pick to see his mining level increase, you can also repair them on the go if you have some of the material you used for the head of your pickaxe on you, also you can upgrade the head or any part of your pickaxe to a better one once you get the material for it, I went from Flint to Copper once I've maxed mine, then with a Copper head, I reached the Iron mining level, once I finally got some Iron, I upgraded the head of my pickaxe to Iron, and the rest is your choice after the Iron there's so much material to choose from with Metallurgy 4, be careful to watch the durability and mining level of them, its actually in NEI so its easy to check.

This annoyed me too when I first started playing, but now I really enjoy the progression and leveling up tools and weapons! I am glad it's in there, and I am also glad that not ALL of the Iguana Tweaks are in there such as stack size limiters etc.....I think the implementation is first rate! Just start with flint level it up to copper and etc it never takes me more then a few days to get pretty much all the way to Nether levels. Just remember Flint is crafted, not a random drop, look it up.
